How to Check Your Car Battery
The car battery: A replaceable but integral part of your car’s function. It’s not particularly expensive or complicated, but if it’s not working your car isn’t going anywhere. Our Park Avenue Acura service center replaces hundreds of Acura batteries every year, and we’ve seen every issue and symptom you can imagine. Here’s some tips from us for how to know if your battery may need to be replaced soon.
How to Check Acura Battery
Starting slowly: If your car is struggling to crank when you turn the key, you might be suffering from weak battery function.
You’ve needed a jump: This is a rather obvious one. If you’ve needed a jump recently, it means your battery was totally drained at some point. Once it’s done that, it will never fully regain its charge capacity, so you may suffer weak performance in the future
Dimming lights: If your external lights (headlights, taillights) or internal dashboard lights are inexplicably dim, that could be a sign that your battery is not delivering adequate power to all of your car’s components.
Battery swelling or corrosion: Check the battery itself, under the hood. If the plastic casing seems bent or bloated, or there’s excessive buildup of white, flakey corrosion around the terminals, those are both bad signs.
Car batteries drain and deteriorate for a number of reasons: They aren’t recharging correctly while you drive, you could have left a light on for a long time with the car unattended, or excessive heat could’ve sapped your vehicle’s battery.
